Question of the Month
How many muscles does walking engage in the human body?
(Answer will be revealed on next month’s page)
Last Month’s Q&A:
How many minutes of moderate exercise per week does the American Heart Association recommend to strengthen your heart during American Heart Month?
Answer: The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week to strengthen the heart. This can be broken down into 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week.
Random Health Trivia:
Walking 30 minutes daily can cut heart disease risk by 19%.
March Challenge:
The individual who walks the most miles will receive a pair of Nike SGS walking shoes valued at over $150, and the department with the most participation will also receive special recognition and bragging rights. The first 15 people who sign up will receive a good old-fashioned pedometer. All participants will be required to submit an electronic log of all walking sessions. Written logs will not be accepted.
Walking can be done outdoors, on a treadmill, or around a job site (in PPE free zone, of course). Safety First by always checking your surroundings and staying off major roads, highways, and thoroughfares. This walking challenge is off the clock and on your free time, as this is not a working activity. Safety observations while walking are always welcome, but incident reports are not! Zero is Possible, stay on your feet!
